Ashby – Reminder About Snowball Safety

This evening we’ve received reports of youths throwing snowballs at passing cars and members of the public in Ashby.

We’re not here to be killjoys — we know snow can be fun — but the temperature has now dropped and snow has turned into ice. This means:

❗ What looks like a soft snowball can actually be hard ice, capable of causing injury

🚗 Ice‑packed snowballs thrown at vehicles can crack windscreens or distract drivers, increasing the risk of a collision

👥 Members of the public can be hurt or startled, especially the elderly or those with mobility issues

⚠️ Throwing objects at vehicles can be treated as a criminal offence, depending on the circumstances

We’re asking parents and guardians to remind young people to enjoy the weather safely and responsibly. A bit of fun should never put others at risk.

Officers will be patrolling the area this evening.
